Recipe Introduction: Stuffed Shells

Stuffed shells are a comforting and delicious Italian dish that brings together large pasta shells filled with a creamy, flavorful mixture of cheeses and herbs, all bathed in a rich tomato sauce and melted to perfection. This dish is a crowd-pleaser and perfect for family gatherings, weeknight dinners, or even special occasions. Whether you’re cooking for a small group or a big family, stuffed shells never disappoint. The combination of gooey cheese, savory sauce, and tender pasta will make this meal a favorite in your kitchen!

Ingredients:

12-15 large pasta shells (conchiglioni)

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg (beaten)

2 cups fresh spinach (chopped, optional for added flavor and nutrition)

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional, for seasoning)

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Pasta

Boil the pasta shells in a large pot of salted water according to the package instructions, but be sure to cook them al dente as they will bake further in the oven. This usually takes around 8-10 minutes.

Drain the shells and set them aside to cool slightly so you can handle them without burning your hands.

Step 2: Prepare the Cheese Filling

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese.

Add the beaten egg, fresh spinach (if using), and oregano to the cheese mixture. Mix everything until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: Stuff the Shells

Take each cooked pasta shell and carefully stuff it with the cheese mixture, using a spoon. Don’t overfill, as the shells should be filled just enough to hold the cheese mixture without spilling.

Place the stuffed shells in a baking dish (9×13 inches works well), fitting them snugly together.

Step 4: Assemble the Dish

Once all the shells are stuffed, pour marinara sauce over the top of the shells, ensuring they are well coated.

Top with extra shredded mozzarella cheese for an extra cheesy, bubbly topping.

Cover the dish with aluminum foil to prevent the cheese from over-browning.

Step 5: Bake the Stuffed Shells

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake the stuffed shells in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and fresh flavor.

Serve the stuffed shells with extra Parmesan cheese on the side and enjoy!

These stuffed shells make a comforting and hearty meal that’s sure to satisfy. Whether served with a side salad or garlic bread, this dish is perfect for any occasion!
