County Apple Fritter Bread

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients:
    • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
  • Wet Ingredients:
    • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
    • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
    • ½ cup milk or almond milk
  • Apple Mixture:
    • 2 large apples, peeled and chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Brown Sugar/Cinnamon Mixture:
    • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Glaze:
    • ½ cup powdered sugar
    • 1-3 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon in another bowl.
  4. Cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Layer half of the apple mixture over it, then sprinkle half of the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining batter, apples, and brown sugar mixture. Swirl the mixture using a knife.
  8. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Mix powdered sugar with milk or cream for the glaze. Drizzle over the cooled bread.
