Cinnamon Rolls Recipe
“I’ve been making these for years and people lose their mind over them every time. They seem like a special homemade treat, but even my 10-year-old can make them by herself.”
Ingredients:
For the dough:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp instant yeast
1 tsp salt
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
1/4 cup melted butter
1 egg
For the filling:
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup softened butter
For the icing:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
1-2 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)
Instructions:
Prepare the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix until well incorporated.
Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Prepare the filling:
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
Assemble the cinnamon rolls:
After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12×18 inches.
Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
Cut the dough into 12 even slices and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Bake the cinnamon rolls:
Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Make the icing:
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Add more milk if you prefer a thinner consistency.
