Recipe Introduction:

This baked pasta casserole is a comforting and filling dish, perfect for family dinners or gatherings. It features pasta, a rich tomato and meat sauce, and a melty layer of cheese, all baked to golden perfection. It’s easy to make and will surely be a hit!

Ingredients:

1 lb (450g) pasta (ziti, penne, or any preferred short pasta)

1 lb (450g) ground beef or ground turkey

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce or homemade tomato sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the pasta:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the pasta according to the package instructions, drain, and set aside.

Make the sauce:

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until softened and fragrant (about 3-4 minutes).

Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet and cook until browned. Break it apart as it cooks.

Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Assemble the casserole:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the sauce mixture. Stir in the ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix until everything is evenly coated.

Pour the pasta mixture into a baking dish (about 9×13 inches). Spread it out evenly.

Top the casserole:

Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese on top.

Bake:

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serve:

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Enjoy this cheesy, hearty casserole with a side of garlic bread or a fresh salad!
