Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
1 medium green cabbage
500 g ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
100 g rice (uncooked)
1 egg
1 onion, finely chopped
400 ml tomato sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the cabbage
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Place the whole cabbage in the boiling water for a few minutes until the outer leaves become soft.
Carefully separate the leaves and set them aside.
Make the filling
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined.
Assemble the rolls
Place a spoonful of filling onto each cabbage leaf.
Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly.
Cook the rolls
Arrange the rolls in a large pan or oven dish.
Pour the tomato sauce over them.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 1–1.5 hours, or bake in the oven at 180 °C for about 1 hour, until the rice is cooked and the rolls are tender.
Serve
Serve hot with extra tomato sauce on top.
